Strike at Casino de Montréal: July 27th GYM Gala postponed

The indefinite general strike by Casino de Montréal staff has forced the Yvon Michel Group (GYM) to postpone its July 27th gala to September 7th.

This was announced by the boxing organizer on Wednesday afternoon, saying that it had decided to hold the event on a different date rather than canceling it. It was set to star GYM’s newest addition, Jonathan Giovanni Di Bella, as well as well-known athletes such as Marie-Pier Houle, Caroline Veyre and Terry Osias.

1,700 Loto-Québec employees at Montreal, Mont-Tremblant, Charlevoix and Gatineau casinos and online games began the strike on Thursday. These are represented by the Confederation of National Trade Unions (CSN).

The Casino de Montréal remains open despite the strike, which does not affect the croupiers but on a modified schedule. For security reasons, the boxing gala cannot take place in the Cabaret du Casino next month.

Di Bella (2-0, 1 KO), a former world kickboxing champion, was scheduled to have his first fight with GYM against Mexico’s Lamberto Macias (16-8-1, 12 KOs). .

Opponents for the other pugilists on the map will be announced later this week.
