TV presenter Piers Morgan defended his decision to identify the two members of the royal family at the center of the furor, saying it was “completely obvious” they were not guilty of racism.
The Dutch version of Endgame was pulled from shelves as the publisher dismissed the edition’s names as a “translation error.”
Mr Scobie told Newsnight it was not his place to apologize as he still wanted to know what happened.
He said: “The book I edited and approved did not contain any names.”

Why isn’t Prince Harry speaking out to defend his father?
Royal author Omid Scobie’s new book Endgame has sparked controversy by identifying King Charles and the princess as Wales, which is said to be at the center of a royal racism dispute.
A Dutch translation of the book referred to the couple as the royals, who were accused of raising questions about the skin color of Prince Harry and Meghan’s son before his birth.
However, the Sussexes – who first made these claims in their 2021 interview with Oprah – remained silent about the revelation.
Harry’s biographer Angela Levin has questioned why the couple have not received any notice and says the test to determine their involvement is to see whether they sue Mr Scobie.

Palace are “considering all options” for Endgame translation
The palace is reportedly considering “all options” in response to a Dutch translation of royal author Omid Scobie’s book Endgame, which names King Charles and the Princess of Wales as royals at the center of a racism row.
Buckingham Palace has not yet responded to the allegations and no member of the royal family has spoken about the allegations at formal meetings.
King Charles spoke at the Cop28 climate conference in Dubai today but made no mention of the scandal.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak declined to comment on the dispute on the way to the Lime talks. Asked about the controversy, he said: “According to longstanding and appropriate convention, it would not be right for me to speak in any way about the royal family.”
When they attended the Royal Variety Show last night, Kate and Prince William put on a united front and once again failed to address the claims.
Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan have also not spoken to defend or confirm the allegations.

Who is Omid Scoobie?
Omid Scobie is a 42-year-old British journalist based in the USA.
It is believed that he was born in Wales, grew up in Oxford and then studied journalism at the London College of Communication at the University of the Arts London.
In his early career, he covered celebrity news for publications such as Heat and US Weekly. He eventually moved to Harper’s Bazaar as royal editor, which remains his role to this day.
He had been covering royal affairs for five years when Prince Harry began dating Meghan.

Mr. Scobie co-authored his first book, “Finding Freedom,” with Carolyn Durand. Published in 2021, the book is an intimate portrait of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Over the years, Mr Scobie has been dubbed “Meghan’s mouthpiece” for his positive coverage of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
However, he has repeatedly stated that he is not a friend of the Sussexes. In an interview with Paris Match, he said: “I am not her friend and never have been.”
However, in 2020, Mr Scobie wrote that he hugged Meghan goodbye as she ended her final engagement as a working royal and that he was one of three journalists invited to cover the event before she flew to Canada.
In Endgame, Mr Scobie revealed that Meghan called him personally after learning he had received threats on social media.

Is Scobie an unreliable narrator?
As the controversy surrounding royal author Omid Scobie’s new book Endgame continues, some have questioned his reliability as a narrator.
After the Dutch translation of his book named King Charles and the Princess of Wales as the royals who raised questions about Archie’s skin color before his birth, Mr Scobie denied that he had written the names himself.
However, Hugo Vickers says it is not surprising that Mr Scobie’s book is “rife with inaccuracies and misrepresentations”.

Omid Scobie denies allegations of publicity stunts
Royal author Omid Scobie has denied that naming the royal family at the center of an alleged racism row was a publicity stunt.
He said he did not know how the Dutch translation, which was scrapped by publishers, came to contain the names of King Charles and the Princess of Wales.
Mr Scobie told Newsnight he was “hurt” by “conspiracy theories that this was a publicity stunt”.
This follows speculation that the names were included in an earlier draft when it was translated in the Netherlands.

How did the names get into the book?
After King Charles and the Princess of Wales were named at the center of a royal racism scandal in the new book Endgame, many wondered how such a mistake could have been printed.
The author, Omid Scobie, denied naming them in any version of the manuscript he wrote and edited, blaming “translation errors.”
However, others have speculated that the names may have been included in an earlier draft of the book.

The book’s Dutch translator, Saskia Peeters, rejected claims that she had inserted the two royals’ names into the Dutch translation of her own accord, saying they were there “in black and white.”
Royal reporter Rick Evers questioned how it was possible for a name to be mistranslated, suggesting that they were in a previous manuscript.
He told Good Morning Britain: “There is some debate about how these passages were presented in the book. I would say, how could you mistranslate a name?
“I was reviewing the book with one of your colleagues and noticed that some passages were missing from the English version. Like one sentence, five sentences between the first and third part, which was in the Dutch version.
“So something was erased while working on the book.”
