Taylor Momsen was constantly teased after her role in The Grinch

Taylor Momsen was teased after starring in The Grinch in 2000.

On Wednesday’s episode of the Podcrushed podcast, the actress and singer told her former “Gossip Girl” co-star Penn Badgley that she had a hard time making friends because of the film. “First of all, The Grinch changed my life in many ways, not least because I was laughed at relentlessly,” she admitted. Every time I started at a new school or went somewhere new, I don’t think the kids even knew my name. I was simply “the Grinch’s daughter.” Not even the character’s name, just ‘the Grinch’s daughter’.”

The “Heaven Knows” singer added that although she has “got used to it” over time, the experience is still “alienating.”

At the time of the film’s release in November 2000, Taylor Momsen was seven years old and played Cindy Lou alongside Jim Carrey, who played the Grinch. The Christmas film also starred Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski and Molly Shannon as Betty Lou Who, Cindy’s mother.

However, in his interview, the rock star stated that working on the film was a formative experience for his budding music career. “The first time I was in a recording studio was during ‘The Grinch’ because little Cindy Lou sings a song in the movie ‘Christmas Come Back to Me.’ It was the first time I put on headphones and heard myself through a microphone.”
