When talking about the poor response to his jokes at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night, comedian Jo Koy told GMA3 that there was a particular moment when he felt bad. He said: “I think it was with Taylor [Swift] one was just a little flat… That was probably a funny joke. But it was more about the NFL… I tried to use cutaways to make fun of the NFL and how the Globes didn't have to do that. So it was more of a dig at the NFL. But it just didn’t come across that way.”

At the ceremony, Jo Koy remarked: “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL – at the Golden Globes we have less camera footage of Taylor Swift. “I swear, there's just more to discover.” He was alluding to that media attention the singer has received in recent months while watching the NFL games of her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Taylor's cold reaction to Jo Koy's joke immediately spread across the internet, with many fans calling the joke unnecessary and unfunny.

“It was a hard job”

In the same interview, the comedian also admitted that the experience was tough for him. “It’s a hard space. It was a tough job, I'm not going to lie… I'd be lying if [I said] it does not hurt. I had a moment where I thought, “Ah.” Hosting is just a hard job. Yes, I am a stand-up comedian, but the hosting position is a different style. I kind of went in and did the author’s thing. We had 10 days to write this monologue. It was a crash course. I feel bad, but I still have to say I loved what I did,” he said.
