North Korea fired multiple cruise missiles off its east coast on Sunday, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said. It was the second missile launch by Pyongyang in less than a week.
The missiles were fired around 8 a.m. local time (11 p.m. GMT Saturday), the JCS said, adding that South Korean and U.S. intelligence agencies were working together to analyze the launches. The JCS did not say how many rockets were fired. “Our military is working closely with the United States while increasing our surveillance and vigilance and monitoring any North Korean signs or activities,” the JCS said in a statement.
“Without mercy”
North Korea tested a new strategic cruise missile called Pulhwasal-3-31 this week. Earlier on Sunday, North Korea's official KCNA news agency denounced a series of military exercises recently organized by the U.S. and South Korean militaries, warning of “merciless” consequences. “The fact that inappropriate nuclear war exercises have been taking place against our republic since the beginning of the new year requires us to be fully prepared for a deadly war,” KCNA reports.
