Tesla has finally received full approval to begin manufacturing and delivering vehicles to customers at the Giga Berlin plant.
The full approval came after Tesla was able to meet 400 “conditions and requirements” related to things like groundwater protection, species protection measures, etc. that were part of the environmental approval received on March 4, 2022.
News of the approval was emailed to employees on Saturday. (across Sawyer Merritt)
With an operating permit, Tesla can move on and start manufacturing and delivering vehicles to customers.
The first deliveries will take place on March 22, when Tesla plans to hold a special grand opening with the participation of local authorities and CEO Elon Musk.
Musk is expected to personally deliver the first 30 German-made vehicles to the happy new owners.
Once these first 30 Model Y Performance SUVs are delivered, Giga Berlin is expected to ramp up production quickly.
Crews at the plant were able to fine-tune their production processes during months of delays in obtaining final approvals.
