Japanese actor and martial artist Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa gained widespread notoriety for playing the role of the character Shang Tsung in the movie Mortal Kombat in 1995. He was born in Tokyo, Japan and is currently 72 years old.

The son of a JapaneseAmerican military father and a Japanese actress, Tagawa began acting in high school and graduated from the University of South Carolina. His first noteworthy work was “The Last Emperor” in 1987.

He then appeared in the cast of “007: License to Kill” (1989) and “Japanese Quarter Massacre” (1991). He is best known for playing the classic character in the 1995 fighting game Mortal Kombat, and has also appeared in other classics such as O Fantasma and Sol Nascente.
