Quebec cartoonist Pierre Fournier died on Friday at the age of 72, his publisher said on social media on Saturday.
“Pierre Fournier passed away peacefully surrounded by his family yesterday afternoon. We echo the beautiful words of Jean-Dominic Leduc: “Finally freed from suffering, he flies away with a light heart, like a Captain Kébec slicing through the skies.” Thank you Pierre for your immeasurable contribution to Quebec comics, we will remember Capitaine Kébec, Michel Risque and Red Ketchup for a long time,” we read in the Éditions de La Pastèque Facebook post.
Pierre Fournier, best known for his Michel Risk and Red Ketchup series, which he co-wrote with longtime friend Réal Godbout, contributed to all issues of the humorous Croc magazine from 1979 to 1995.
His character of Captain Kébec, created in 1973, was a real success.
As a recipient of the Albert Chartier Prize, Pierre Fournier was inducted into the Canadian Comics Hall of Fame in 2008.
