Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today congratulated his Honduran counterpart Xiomara Castro on her birthday via his X account.

During his speech at the Group of 77-China summit recently held in this capital, Castro described Cuba as a symbol of dignity for Latin America and the Caribbean and emphasized the island’s resistance to the United States blockade.

In her speech, the President praised her host counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel, for carrying on the legacy of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and other dignitaries from the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.

In this sense, the first female president of Honduras emphasized the resistance to the systematic neoliberal attack and the will to strengthen regional integration.

Earlier this month, thousands of citizens reaffirmed their support for President Xiomara Castro and demanded respect for the Honduran constitutional order in a gigantic demonstration.

The mobilization, which analysts consider one of the largest in local political history, also helped reaffirm the refoundation project in the face of threats of another coup by opposition forces led by the National, Patriotic Alliance and Salvador of Honduras.

Participants from different departments of the country arrived in Tegucigalpa, mostly dressed in red and black clothes, and gathered near the Presidential House, from where they set off on a long walk to the sidelines of the National Congress. , waving flags and saying slogans like “No more coups” and “Xiomara is not alone.”
