The dart of the pantomime full

Rober Bodegas and Alberto Casado are the creators and protagonists of Pantomime Full, a format for the internet that makes the most of the medium. In their well-known and widely acclaimed videos, Bodegas and Casado mercilessly portray contemporary fauna – with four very precise brushstrokes. They’ve been doing it for years with consultants, entrepreneurs, polyamorous people, bachelor parties or house hunting. Pantomime full videos are like The Hive for a world in decline.

Now they have insulted half the country by portraying the conformists. How can a video about conformism offend someone? Well, because it touches bones. A thirty-year-old in a tracksuit (Alberto Casado) comments listlessly that he has moved to a new neighborhood: “What does that matter, it doesn’t matter.” He introduces us to his girlfriend Patri (the scathing Carmen Romero), with whom he has been dating for eight years. “We accept that,” they say in front of a building with windows without parapets. They show the bar they go to (they don’t like it, but it’s not bad either), their plans to have kids (“It’s About Time”), their weekend (they watched TV but fell asleep) and their summer in Santa Pola (as you already know, well). A poster completes the sketch: “El diario de Nah”.

This time, Full Pantomime doesn’t make us laugh, but it almost makes us cry. With the disappointment as a flag, Bodegas and Casado just did the final portrait, which isn’t funny. All the videos so far have been about the few illusions that keep us afloat, the pathetic stories we tell ourselves to follow the carrot. But with this video they hit a bone, talking about this world in the best possible horizon is conformism because whoever conforms is because they have something. And this is a serious and very real problem worth analyzing by philosophers and anthropologists. The two did it in a minute and a half.
