The Dominican will chair the regional planning council of ECLAC

The XIX. Meeting of the above-mentioned organization granted this condition to the Caribbean State, which will collaborate with the Ministers of Economy and Planning of Brazil, Chile, Dominica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Jamaica and Peru.

As Chairman of the Board, Dominican Economy Minister Pável Isa Contreras emphasized the importance of the Council establishing itself as a network of countries that continuously interact and cooperate based on their experiences with others following similar paths.

He considered that this body of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) should be a network that establishes a work program for collective learning and empowerment within the framework of a common capacity building agenda.

The owner also proposed the adoption of a regional planning agenda in which axes, priorities, measures and indicators would be jointly established in order to better organize the working relationship.

During the inauguration speech, the Minister praised the progress made by the National Planning System in the Dominican Republic, such as strengthening the adoption of strategic needs of the territory, its integration in the policy formulation process and in the budget system in assessing institutional performance.

He claimed that the government is opting for a public policy management system “capable of looking at 20 years, programming for four years, monitoring for one year and tracking every three months.”

Among the tools used, he mentioned the National Monitoring and Evaluation System, linked to the already established tools such as financial management, planning and the main official statistical systems.

He appreciated that responding to global challenges requires, in addition to research, regulatory and institutional frameworks with tools that enable the design of better public policies and promote higher quality public spending.
