Like Toronto’s CN Tower, which was resplendent in Montreal Canadiens colors during its 2021 playoff run, New York’s iconic Empire State Building caused a stir by showing its support for the “evil” NFL team on Sunday.
The Manhattan skyscraper was decorated with the color green to congratulate the Philadelphia Eagles on their participation in the Super Bowl.
A hard-to-take tribute to New York Giants fans who had seen their favorites eliminated by the same Eagles a week earlier.
Big Apple cornerback Justin Love also expressed his displeasure on Twitter.
“What is this? Let me close my blinds,” he said.
Though the iconic building also lit up red to mark the Kansas City Chiefs’ participation in the Goodell Circuit Grand Final, it still made the cover of the New York Post, which called the gesture a “treason.”
“It hurt us more than it hurt you,” joked the Empire State Building’s Twitter account.
The Chiefs and Eagles meet on February 12 in Glendale, Arizona.
