Political nightmare or breakthrough?
Some people will be happy that the ability to create humans in the laboratory has become so advanced.
Unfortunately, this scientific breakthrough also opens the door to political nightmares that have previously belonged to the world of science fiction.
Democracies have enough laws of all kinds so that laboratory humans eventually become full-fledged human beings, with all the associated rights and responsibilities. Although this path is not necessarily the one that would be taken.
Some will argue that laboratory humans could solve the problems of declining birth rates in developed countries. That couples without children, but who would like to have offspring, could find happiness there. It is possible.
Great opportunity for totalitarian countries
But totalitarian countries, often led by paranoid leaders, will not miss such a great opportunity to attract citizens they want as role models.
Will the laboratory humans who will one day be born have the same rights as other humans? Without a father and mother, who will watch over them? How will we raise them? Who are they used for and what are they used for?
The nightmare doesn’t end here.
In how many years will it be possible to produce laboratory humans with very specific characteristics?
Would the leaders of North Korea, China, Saudi Arabia or Iran be interested in compliant, believing people?
Undoubtedly, the leaders of these countries will justify the worst eugenic excesses in the name of Mao, Marx or Allah, while their real goal will always be to gain as much power as possible by any means possible.
Urgency to fight against totalitarian countries
It is inevitable that scientific advances will eventually lead to the creation of humans from stem cells. This progress cannot be stopped.
Some researchers explain that these are not real human embryos. This distinction is very worrying. Apparently this is intended to silence those who criticize research on human embryos. But it also raises the possibility of considering that an embryo that would develop to birth would be subhuman.
Furthermore, it is sad that the researchers who played Doctor Frankenstein are funded by an Israeli research institute. One would have expected more sensitivity and caution in such research in Israel.
