For the first time in National Hockey League history, all 32 teams were in action at the same time on a weekday, Tuesday.
This formula, called “Frozen Frenzy,” allowed fans to watch more than seven hours of non-stop hockey. A game started every 15 or 30 minutes between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.
The day after that special evening, the NHL revealed some interesting statistics. No fewer than 102 goals were scored in the 16 games, an average of 6.4 goals per game. The first was Morgan Rielly’s work at 6:30 p.m.; The last one was registered at 1:45 by Shea Theodore. A total of 93 different players found the net.
Ten of the 16 meetings were won by visiting teams, a sign of the parity that exists in the Bettman circle and the relative advantage of playing at home. You can find more numbers here.
It all started at 6 p.m. with a duel between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Capitals in Washington. The final game between the Philadelphia Flyers and the reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Vegas Golden Knights, began at 11 p.m. at T-Mobile Arena.
It was only the second time in NHL history that all 32 teams played at the same time. The experiment was also tried last Saturday, April 8th. However, this was the first time that all games started at different times.
