The Gaza war is now also dividing the government in Israel

The War Cabinet approved the daily entry of two oil tankers into Gaza. The radical right in the coalition is screaming.

Two tanker trucks, which now transport daily aid to the Gaza Strip and which were supposed to keep a minimum of infrastructure and water supply in operation, triggered the first government crisis in Israel since the start of the war. The war cabinet composed of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Joav Gallant and former army chief Benny Gantz followed the recommendations of the Israeli army and the national intelligence service Shin Beth in agreeing to the humanitarian measure for the population starving civilian.

This outraged the radical forces in Netanyahu’s government, who, with two exceptions, have remained silent until now. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich recently thought out loud about the exodus of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. This correlates with the opinion he expressed in Paris in the spring that there is no such thing as a Palestinian people and, consequently, a Palestinian territory. For Egypt and the US, the expulsion of the Palestinians marks a red line – such as a renewed occupation or a division of the territory, as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently stated.
