With a 7-4 win over the Islanders on Tuesday night in New York, the Colorado Avalanche set a new National Hockey League (NHL) record for the number of consecutive wins on opposing ice.

It was the 15th win in a row for Nathan MacKinnon and his gang abroad. The streak started last season. The old brand belonged to the Buffalo Sabers, who won 14 consecutive times between April 3 and November 13, 2006.

“It can be explained by the confidence and character of this group,” said forward Ryan Johansen, whose comments were reported by the NHL website.

“We believe in it. Things are going very positively in our group at the moment. We keep going even when things don’t go the way we want. That’s a very good sign,” continued the man who joined the Avalanche in a trade with the Nashville Predators last June.

The “Avs” also haven’t lost a game in 2023-2024. They are one of three teams, along with the Boston Bruins and Vegas Golden Knights, that have not suffered a humiliating defeat since the start of this season.

“We’re lucky we’re 6-0-0. The boys are aware of this. We’re always trying to improve,” said head coach Jared Bednar.

Mikko Rantanen once again provided the attack against the Islanders. The 26-year-old Finn had one goal and three assists. It was his second four-point game this year. He now has 12 points (5-7) in six games.

Goaltender Alexandar Georgiev has accounted for all of the Avalanche’s wins this season, becoming just the eighth goaltender in NHL history to win his team’s first six games in a season.

The Avalanche will look to continue their success and improve their record on Thursday when they visit Pittsburgh to face the Penguins.
