The Mac M3 range would not come with either the Mini or the MacBook Pro 14 and 16 – MacGeneration

In his latest Power On mailing list, Mark Gurman briefly outlines the release schedule for future Macs equipped with an Apple M3 chip. And according to the always well-informed Bloomberg journalist, don’t rely on the Mac mini or the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros to launch this new range. If he doesn’t specify, there are few candidates left: the 24-inch iMac could be one of the first to inherit it, even if we’re mainly thinking of the MacBook Air. Not to mention the crappy 13-inch MacBook Pro that might survive another year with its Touch Bar from another era.

The Mac mini M3 is planned, but nothing is to be expected in the short term. According to Mark Gurman, work on this machine has just started and he can’t envisage a release until late 2024 at best. He points out that two years have passed between the M1 model and the M2 versions, giving Apple a flexible schedule without updating its small computer every year.

The MacBook Pro, on the other hand, should be entitled to a more regular update. That doesn’t mean we have to wait for them this fall though, the release of the M3 range would wait until 2024 and maybe even mid-2024. Apple would repeat a now-established pattern, with the initial release of the Apple M3 chip for consumer Macs as well as iPads (and the Vision Pro?), and then in a second phase the release of the Apple M3 Pro and Apple M3 Max for Macs (for) Pro. If the first M3 Macs arrive later this year or, according to rumors, in early 2024, the “Pro” models should wait a few more months.
