The mighty Glenn Monroig celebrates 50 years of concert career

A waste of mixed feelings due to the variety of his beautiful songs and the truths denounced between each subject was what the singer-songwriter provoked in public Glenn Monroeto celebrate his concert “50 Years, Yesterday, Today and Forever”Saturday evening at Center of Fine Arts Santurce.

The Glenn Monroig fan’s applause and cheers began at 8:44 p.m. to the instrumental prelude by the Philharmonic Orchestra, masterfully conducted by maestro Frankie Suárez and guitarist Jorge Laboy, playing a medley of hits by the veteran singer.

Minutes later, Glenn Monroig appeared on stage in a sleek black suit. The singer, with audience approval, reviewed twenty songs he had performed during the two and a half hours that the show lasted.

His vocal power and stage presence allowed him to have total control over a huge audience cheering and accompanying him through every song.

Not even the microphone malfunction at the “opening” of the concert, which forced a change of equipment, stopped the success of his presentation.

“The asshole was cut off by the serve, it’s the monsters, if they don’t build up the ‘feel’ it’s saved. Maybe the microphone is 50 years old. Good evening, God bless you and thank you for being here.”

“Tonight we’re going to celebrate nature, through these songs… let’s begin the journey,” Glenn said in his first contact with the audience, who celebrated him all night.

“Our table in the café”, “Hello”, “Look me in the eye” and “You told me so” were the first hits that the singer performed on his musical evening, which ended almost midnight.

His spark and delight in telling humorous anecdotes in his unspoilt, small-town slang died when he heard, especially his father’s voice, Gilberto Monroigwho joined the topic

“When the rain falls” by the late composer Myrta Silva.

“I’m honored to be my father’s son, this show isn’t scripted… I’m like that,” he tearfully said.

Another sublime moment was revealed by the presence of his daughter, the young singer. Salome MonroigHe sang the song “I know you’ll be back” in a duet with his father.

“I am a father of three wonderful daughters, they are all grown, the eldest is Paloma, beautiful. My blood daughter Salomé accompanies me, she sings beautifully, she has her grandfather’s genes,” he said full of admiration for his daughter.

The celebrated singer concluded the first part of the concert with the songs “I think it was love”, “Cause and effect” and “The bag and life”.

Returning to the stage in casual attire, he reviewed the upcoming songs, and the impatient crowd pointed at him. “Live for you” musical theme of the 1982 soap opera of the same name, which starred his ex-partner, actress Camille Carrión, and Argentine actor Pablo Alarcón.

“It’s snowing in Puerto Rico,” a theme he interpreted with alacrity for the subliminal message of consciousness. The artist used his presentation to denounce the social issues plaguing the island in all its territories between each song, naming things in his not-far-fetched word.

The above theme was joined by And Then, Without Your Affection, Causing Loss, and Solo. He said goodbye to the audience with his classic “Forever”, but before the audience got up and asked for another song, he returned to the stage and performed “Corazón”, with which he left his fans more than satisfied.
