The Minister of Education will preside over the conclusion of the 79th meeting of the OEI Board

MADRID, Spain.- The Minister of Education of the Dominican Republic, Ángel Hernández, presided over the closing ceremony of the 79th session of the Board of Directors of the Iberoamerican Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (OEI), at an act in which he was presented by the Secretary General of the organization, Mariano Jabonero , was accompanied.

Hernández, as President of the Board of Directors, approved the 2023-2024 OEI program budget, the organization’s work program and budgets for the next biennium, presented in virtual format at the meeting held in Madrid.
Hernández highlighted the organization’s good budgetary position, which was confirmed in the submitted program budget, while also handing over the baton of board chairmanship to his Argentinian counterpart Jaime Perczyk, who will assume the position from next January 1st.

The OEI program budget 2023-2024 reveals the need to further mitigate the effects of recent crises such as the pandemic or the economic recession in the Iberoamerican region.

In this sense, the OEI is committed to strengthening its relationships in the ecosystem of international organizations, while developing strategies to increase productivity in the region, which has not grown since the 1960s, through its Ibero-American Institute of Education and Productivity, or its Ibero -American Institute for Training and Learning for Collaboration.

The ministers and heads of delegations from the education ministries of the 23 member countries rated the cooperation program of the OEI for the next biennium positively.

Likewise, the Secretary General thanked Minister Ángel Hernández for his support and collaboration during his time as Chairman of the OEI Board.
The Board of Directors also approved the OEI’s priorities for the next biennium, they will focus on digital transformation and academic mobility, teacher education and knowledge management, education and productivity, quality, equity and inclusion in early childhood, first grades, youth; Human Rights and Citizenship and Higher Education and Science, among others.

Also collaborating and developing new strategies to promote alliances, implementing a global communications strategy by producing quality content, reports and research; Visibility and cultural promotion of the region, strengthening bilingualism in Latin America through the spread of Spanish and Portuguese in scenarios such as science and culture.
