Barely five hours had passed on Tuesday when a glider full of hashish bales was unloaded on Las Azucenas Beach in Motril on Granada’s tropical coast. According to the police, the drug traffickers had already landed 15 bales and, according to other sources, 16 bales when another group attacked them to steal their drugs, which in drug jargon is known as “knocking over”, the robbery of drug traffickers. Other people’s goods. Then there was a shooting that alarmed some people, who in turn called the National Police. After the agents appeared on the beach, members of one gang and another fled, unable to take the entire cargo with them. Officials seized 600 kilos of hashish, although they suspect the boat was carrying much more.

The escape of all drug traffickers, who had fled by sea and land, prevented arrests, and there were no arrests in the following 36 hours. The case is “under investigation,” says the spokesman for the police in Granada, who did not provide any further information. According to the Efe agency, after the drug traffickers escaped, the police discovered that they had parked numerous vehicles nearby to transport the drugs. Due to the volume of these vehicles, investigators suspect that the hashish transported in the boats could weigh up to four tons.

According to Efe, the police confiscated the vehicles and the drugs and conducted a search with dogs on Tuesday morning for other items left behind by the drug traffickers.

Las Azucenas Beach is located next to the port of Motril, from which numerous ferries and large cargo ships arrive and depart daily. This incident is not the first related to drug trafficking on this beach. Bales periodically appear floating in the area or, as in 2019, a drifting drug boat appeared on the shore with more than a hundred barrels of fuel. The most notorious event occurred more than a decade ago, when Guardia Civil officers seized a stash of more than 3,000 kilos of hashish and arrested seven people in 2009.
