Snowflakes fell in New York City (NYC) between yesterday and today, but they were not enough to end a stretch of nearly 700 days without significant snowfall in the largest city in the United States. This weekend, snow fell heavily further west of the city and points further from the coast, but snow accumulations were light in the Big Apple.
The string of days in which New York City did not record at least an inch (2.54 cm) of snow in a day reached an impressive 693 days this Sunday and is likely to surpass 700. This is the longest streak by a wide margin since records began in 1869.
The last time a single storm left more than an inch (2.54 cm) of snow in New York City was on February 13, 2022. It snowed in New York City on March 9, 2022, but accumulation only reached 0 .4 inches or 1 centimeter, records show.
According to the United States National Weather Service (NWS), New York City's official station in Central Park recorded just 0.2 inches, or half a centimeter. Enough to please residents and tourists, but far from the level needed to end the twocentimeter snow drought.
