Nevertheless the 11,500 available H-2B visas to work in the United States can only be applied for by citizens of the following countries: El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Haitiregardless of whether they are returning workers or not.

Although Cuba is not included in this list, which, as mentioned, changes every year, we would like to highlight two points that could be considered.

One is that the availability of countries eligible for H-2B visas to the United States changes year to year, but even if the applicant is not a citizen of any of the countries, they can still submit their application in writing .

This would be the second point we refer to, because the Department of Homeland Security has the authority, through its Secretary, to determine whether an ineligible country can be added to the previous list.

In this case, interested parties must submit their request in writing to the DHS Policy Office or to the State Department of the United States Embassy or Consulate in their country.

On the other hand, in answering our third question at the beginning of this article, we tell you that the H-2B visa to work in the United States consists of a nonimmigrant permit with a validity of 3 years, which allows employers to provide non-US country citizens through temporary non-agricultural visas.
