SPINEA – The Latin dance world mourns the disappearance of Maurizio Dona, DJ di Spinea, who died yesterday morning at the age of 63. Donà, who lived in Fornase, was known throughout the region for his musical production and for the many evenings at the podium in Venetian clubs. He has been producing his music for many years and gets many fans of salsa and other Latin American dances dancing. His most famous productions also include Kamasutra, Cuando yo bailo, Pa los rumberos and many collaborations with well-known international artists. He had recently been working on a new project and produced the song “Te traigo a bailar” together with his colleague Dj El Dan. This piece has been played a lot in all the clubs in the last few weeks, with a special dedication to Maurizio whom everyone, fellow DJs and dancers, loved and wished him a speedy recovery. “He was proud to know that people were playing his record at the time to promote it for him because he was stuck at home with illness,” says his wife Monica. When they met, he worked as a speaker at the radio base’s San Marco club, and together they opened the record store “Juke Box” in the square in Mirano. “But then times changed and with the advent of hypermarkets it wasn’t worth it anymore, so Maurizio devoted himself to DJing, his great passion,” explains Monica. In 2014 the first signs of the disease, with an intervention that seemed to be resolved.
ILLNESS
Unfortunately, for 3 years the disease had returned in the form of metastases. After the lockdown, he tried very hard to get back to work, but then his condition deteriorated. «We liked his music – say some teachers of a salsa school in Padua – and we followed him to Vicenza to go dancing on his evenings. Last night they dedicated the song to him and wished him well. Unfortunately, however, the next morning we received the terrible news ». Hundreds of messages for him expressing condolences to his wife Monica and daughter Nicole. The date of the funeral has not yet been set.
