SANTO DOMINGO.-After half past six in the morning the reception ceremony for the representatives of the 22 nations who had gathered to celebrate the XXVIII. Celebrating the Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Ibero-American Conference, attended by 17 Heads of State and Government, including the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, greeted each high-level visitor in turn, and this episode featured countries from Latin America and the Caribbean, Spain, Portugal and Andorra.

Shortly before 8 a.m. the Cuban head of state arrived, accompanied by his partner Lis Cuesta Peraza. Both accepted the warm welcome of the host President in the Ozama Fortress in the colonial part of Santo Domingo.

As a prelude to the opening act of the summit, the representatives of the nations continued to reach a stage marked by the colonial style between cobblestones, arches and stone buildings.

At almost eight thirty in the morning an event began where the Dominican Republic welcomed its brothers from the Ibero-American community and they spoke about sharing and agreeing on ideas.

Ibero-American Secretary General Andrés Allamand gave the first opening remarks of the evening, in which he alluded to the importance of a people-centred Summit, for the quality of life of the residents that the community represents.

Allamand also spoke of inclusion, consensus and unity in diversity. And then Dominican President Luis Abinader gave a welcome speech.

Our ideal will not be the work of a single man, but a sustained collaboration, one work among many, reflected President Abinader just before the end of the evening, during which those present were also entertained with a short representative show of Ibero-American culture.

This Friday afternoon, President Díaz-Canel had arrived in the Caribbean nation via Las Americas International Airport, where he was received by the Dominican Republic’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hugo Rivera.

The Cuban delegation at the XXVIII. Summit also consists of Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla; the Minister for Foreign Trade and Foreign Investments, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz; and the ambassador to this sister country, Carina Soto Agüero.

The Iberoamerican Conference is an already consolidated space of collaboration with activities based on more than 30 years of work to which Cuba attaches great importance. The Greater Antilles are founding members of the Ibero-American Conference, the first of which was held in Guadalajara, Mexico in 1991.
