Yerevan’s government called for a United Nations mission to ensure the security of Armenians in the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave and accused Azerbaijan of plotting ethnic cleansing as the head of Azerbaijan’s diplomacy vowed to respect the rights of minorities.

As Azerbaijan flaunts weapons supplied by Armenian militias as part of the ceasefire, Yerevan called on the UN to send a mission to ensure the safety of Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh after an Azerbaijani military operation left 200 dead, according to local authorities had.

The heads of state and government of France and Germany as well as the President of the European Commission will also take part in this meeting, which will involve the signing of a peace treaty between the two countries.
On the other hand, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan criticized this Sunday his country’s current alliances, pointing to its long-standing relations with Moscow, which date back to the time when Armenia was part of the Soviet Union.
“The foreign security systems in which Armenia participates have proven ineffective in protecting its security and interests,” Pashinyan said in a televised address four days after Azerbaijan regained control of Nagorno-Karabakh following Armenian separatist fighters’ decision to leave to lay down weapons.
“Armenia has never abandoned its commitments or betrayed its allies. But the analysis of the situation shows that the security systems and allies on which we have long relied have made it their goal to show our vulnerability and the inability of the Armenian people to have an independent state,” he explained .
Azerbaijan recaptured the territory from Armenian separatists in a blitzkrieg in 2020. There was renewed violence in the region earlier this week.
Nagorno-Karabakh separatists hand over their weapons to Azerbaijan and negotiate withdrawal. Both Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to a ceasefire in the disputed region on Wednesday.
This Friday, Russian peacekeepers delivered more than 50 tons of humanitarian aid to the civilian population of Nagorno-Karabakh, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
The cargo intended for the population of Stepanakert included food rations and hygiene items as well as basic needs.
Two days ago, the Russian contingent evacuated five thousand people from three areas of Karabakh province, witnesses of armed clashes in recent days.
