Al Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Aqla Nasri, a prominent Palestinian-American journalist, was assassinated on Wednesday May 11 after being shot in the head by Israeli occupying forces in Jenin in the occupied West Bank.

Abu Aqla wore a high-visibility press jacket and also wore a helmet, leading many to believe so the fatal shot was deliberately aimed at a weak point in his protection.

“Journalists were covering the recent Israeli invasion of Jenin when the occupying forces opened fire on them,” reports The Cradle.

In addition to Abu Aqla, Palestinian journalist Ali Samoudi was shot in the back but survived and is in stable condition.

According to Al Mayadeen, Samoudi confirmed this the journalists were not affiliated with the Palestinian resistance forces in repelling the Israeli invasion of their city, contradicting the occupation authorities’ claims, after which the journalists were caught in the crossfire.

For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has attempted to avoid responsibility for the Al Jazeera journalist’s death, arguing that it was likely “armed Palestinians” who shot the journalist.

This killing adds to the long list of atrocities committed by the occupying Israeli army under the scrutiny of international organizations that claim to defend human rights.
