In the North American state of Texas, its authorities launched a novel campaign related to undocumented migrants. The idea is that residents of each territory in the region denounce the places where illegal or undocumented migrants are hiding.
The initiative is attractive to most because the price of offering such information is no less than $5,000.00. As is well known, for obvious geographical reasons, Texas is a preferred territory for irregular migrants arriving in the United States.
Many remain in this state until they find illegal work to support their families. So far, several houses have been discovered serving as shelters for undocumented immigrants, but authorities intend to keep this idea of a reward for information alive.
On the trail of undocumented immigrants and coyotes
It is known that the whole process of crossing the border and then hiding is part of the work of several “coyotes”. This is how the seemingly never-ending “business” works.
Many people involved in this illegal human trafficking activity have been arrested, particularly in Mexican territory. However, new groups are emerging that specialize in this aspect.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Texas Department of Safety (DPS) has raised the bar when it comes to rewards. The aim is to discover the houses where drugs or people are made or hidden for the purpose of human trafficking. The issue was raised by DPS Lieutenant Chris Olivarez. “Mexican drug cartels have turned the business of undocumented immigrants into multi-million dollar slavery.”
Texas authorities insist that anyone with knowledge of these illegal activities contact them at 800-252-8477. In the same way, they can submit the complaint anonymously through the DPS website.
