Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is expected to miss tonight’s Premier League game against Manchester City with a muscle injury.
The Ghana international trained with his team-mates on Tuesday and was due to start the top-flight game at the Emirates Stadium.
But a late injury setback will see him sidelined. While the injury isn’t considered serious, it still comes as a major blow to Arsenal ahead of a crucial game.
Partey, 29, has been one of Arsenal’s most important and consistent players this season, starting in 18 of their 21 league games to date.
He joins a long injury list with fellow midfielder Mohamed Elneny already sidelined, alongside Reiss Nelson, Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Jesus. Albert Sambi Lokonga, meanwhile, joined Crystal Palace on loan during the January transfer window.
Jorginho later joined from Chelsea as Mikel Arteta looked for proper cover.
Arsenal have been going through a rough patch of late, not winning a game since beating Manchester United 3-2 in the Premier League on January 22. A win for Manchester City would see them overtake Arteta’s side for first place in the league despite playing one more game.
