“Selling 2,000 years of Armenian civilization for Azerbaijani gas,” read one poster. Exiled Armenians from several European countries attended the rally in the European quarter of the Belgian capital.
EU called on to help
Organizers, who estimated the number of protesters at 10,000, accused Azerbaijan of “ethnic cleansing” in Nagorno-Karabakh. In their appeal, they urged the European Union to have an “international and humanitarian presence in Armenia” and called for sanctions against Azerbaijan.
Following the defeat of pro-Armenian forces against Azerbaijan, authorities in Nagorno-Karabakh, which is predominantly inhabited by Armenians, announced on Thursday the dissolution of the self-proclaimed republic. Tens of thousands of people have fled there in recent days.
