On social networks, they took a fragment of the president in the face when he was campaigning, in which he declared that if he won, the ELN would end in three months.

Through social networks, netizens recalled the moment when the former senator declared that if the presidency was achieved through dialogue, the ELN would end in three months.

“Didn’t you promise peace with the ELN in three months? Such total peace is just absolute violence. What a shame 7 months of straw”; “In this way? Wouldn’t that put an end to the ELN in three months? Or someone is lying to us,” were some of the opinions people had on Twitter, which once again have the president in the eye of the hurricane.

The fragment went viral because it appeared on March 29th. It turns out that nine soldiers from the public force and more than ten wounded were the tally of the last ELN attack against the army in the department of Norte de Santander, more precisely in the municipality of El Carmen.

According to the army, this massacre was carried out by members of the Camilo Torres Front, who are committing crimes in the Catatumbo region. “We have preliminary reported the murder of nine of our soldiers; fact that we deeply regret. This criminal attack would be attributed to the ELN. At the moment, the army commander is traveling to the site,” the military institution said. This action then contradicts what Petro said in 2021. In three months the ELN has not stopped and the attacks continue.

Referring to the interview from two years ago, Petro pointed out that there is no need to be afraid of him and of changes, he also stated that there is no democracy in Colombia, among other things, because of inequality and attacks on the civilian population , have not allowed that it is fake. When asked if he was the Colombian Chávez, Petro indicated that he would not be because, unlike Chavismo, he proposed a productive economy that was not dependent on hydrocarbons.

While he has asserted that he is a friend of the former President of Venezuela, he is not the same as him as they do not fully share the same ideas. The last time the two met was in 2006. He also pointed out that Chávez and Maduro have different ways of governing, but that oil dependency, both affecting their national economies, are helping to adversely affect the country and its citizens.

“When I become President of Colombia, I will launch an investigation into drug trafficking routes in the country. Not only for Venezuela, but also for the Pacific and the Caribbean, and if the Colombian investigation turns out to be true, then we will start criminal proceedings, but in Colombia,” Petro said at the time when asked about his opinion on the arrest Arrest warrant issued in a United States court for Nicolás Maduro over alleged links to drug trafficking.

He also reiterated that when a drug trafficking network gives up everything, stands by the truth in court and is voluntarily dismantled, the sentence should be carried out in Colombia and not abroad. In the event that there was fraud in this procedure, the sentence would be served in the United States based on a bilateral agreement with the government. In this train of thought, he sees the legalization of marijuana or the coca plant as helping to reduce conflict with drug dealers.

At this moment, Petro is about to complete eight months as President of the Republic, and in that time, especially its first three months, the ELN has not yet ended. Dialogue with the group has resumed since November 21 last year after months of exploratory talks. The interviews were conducted in three cycles.

The most complex point in this process occurred when the government declared a ceasefire with the ELN earlier this year, which was not confirmed by the insurgent organization; The reason why the decree was suspended a few days ago is that the setting is a contradiction in terms. According to the ELN version, it was a proposal that was not in force and would be discussed in the ongoing rounds of negotiations with the government.
