To celebrate the holiday season and the New Year, Todd Phillips treated fans to new photos from the upcoming film Joker: Folie à Deux.
The sequel to 2019's “Joker,” starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, is scheduled to be released by Warner Bros. on October 4, 2024.
The filmmaker posted two photos on Instagram, and in the first, Phoenix's Arthur Fleck is seen through what looks like a prison cell window with the number “E258” written above it. The second image shows Gaga's Harley Quinn in civilian clothes, looking at Phoenix's character in his iconic Joker makeup.
Phillips followed the photos with the caption: “Wishing everyone a happy holidays and a happy new year. Oct. 2024 #Joker2.”
Although most of the film was kept under wraps, the director continued to tease his fans throughout the year. To celebrate the completion of filming, Phillips released photos of Phoenix and Gaga in character in April. The “A Star is Born” actress was also photographed during a shoot for “Joker: Folie à Deux” in New York City earlier this year.
Gaga's Harley Quinn first debuted in February when Phillips posted a first-look image of the star holding Phoenix's face on Instagram. In the caption at the time, he wrote: “Happy Valentine’s Day.”
“Joker,” which grossed $1 billion, followed Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian who struggles with mental health issues and turns to crime and mayhem.
Joker: Folie à Deux will be one of the DC Elseworlds titles, along with Matt Reeves' The Batman sequel, which will exist independently from the slate of DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran.
