A tragic accident occurred in the canton of St. Gallen over the weekend. A mother and her six-year-old son were killed by a tree.
On Sunday, August 21, 2022, just before 11:50 am, a tree trunk fell in the old Badstrasse in the Swiss Rhine Valley. He injured a 42-year-old woman and her son (6) so badly that they both died at the scene of the accident.

The woman was traveling with her son and others on the gravel road from Bad Ragaz towards the Tamina Gorge. The road is bordered on the left by a stream. To the right, an almost vertical rock face. This one is equipped with trees on top. A tree trunk came off the top of the wall and fell into the street. There the tribe met the mother, who lived in the canton of Appenzell-Ausserrhoden, with her son. Unfortunately, rescuers and the AP3 air rescue emergency doctor could only determine the deaths of the two.

The old Badstrasse is a popular, flat gravel road that runs from Bad Ragaz to the Tamina Gorge. It is celebrated by hundreds of people on tour days. The road is closed to private traffic. There is an hourly bus connection.
After the incident, all walking trails in the area were closed. On Monday, the route of approximately four kilometers will be checked by experts. This road is visually inspected three times a week by officials from the district road inspectorate in Buchs. The last time this happened was on Friday afternoon. Every spring, the route is checked by forestry experts and workers at heights and trees are felled if necessary.
In addition to several police patrols from the canton of St. Gallen, firefighters, forestry specialists and a representative of the municipality of Pfäfers and the road district inspectorate were called. Psychological first aid was called to take care of family members.
