North Korea has decided to expel Travis King, the American soldier who voluntarily crossed the military demarcation line into the North on July 18 during a tour of the demilitarized zone between the two Koreas. This was reported by the South Korean agency Yonhap, which in turn quoted the North Korean agency Kcna.
What happened
On July 18, Travis King and a group of tourists visited Panmunjom, the “Treasure Village,” where the armistice between the two Koreas was signed in 1953 after three years of war. Suddenly the boy started laughing loudly, ran and disappeared into the northern sector. “At first it seemed like a joke, but when it became clear that he had fled across the demarcation line, chaos broke out,” said a witness who took part in the tour. After hours of embarrassment, the American command identified the “missing man”: Travis King, 23 years old, private, a cavalry scout in the First Armored Division who had served in South Korea since 2021.
