With his recent speeches on his online platform, Donald Trump scored an own goal: he called for the repeal of the constitution!
Former US President Donald Trump has faced strong opposition from his own party for his call to repeal parts of the constitution. “Massive fraud of this type and magnitude justifies the repeal of all rules, regulations and paragraphs, even those of the Constitution,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social online platform over the weekend, referring to his untenable allegation of alleged fraud in Big scale. Manipulations in the 2020 elections that would have robbed him of victory. “Our great ‘founders’ (fathers) did not and would not tolerate false and fraudulent elections.”
The White House immediately condemned Trump’s statement. “Attacking the Constitution and all it stands for is anathema to the soul of our nation and should be universally condemned,” said spokesman Andrew Bates.
“He calls for the end of democracy”
There were also immediate sharp criticisms from the Democratic side: Congressman Ted Lieu dismissed Trump’s statement as “anti-American and fascist”, his colleague Don Beyer declared that Trump had “openly declared himself an enemy of the constitution”. Hakeem Jeffries, the future leader of the Democrats in the grand chamber of Congress, described Trump’s ABC post as “weird” and “extreme”. Republicans would have to decide whether to continue to embrace his anti-democratic views.
“He is calling for the end of America’s constitutional democracy,” said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. “He is out of control and a threat to our democracy.”
But Trump also had to take a beating from the ranks of Republicans. Congressman Mike Turner reacted immediately Sunday on CBS: He “vehemently” contradicted Trump’s statements and “absolutely condemned them,” he wrote. Words are also expected to play a role in the party’s decision on who to put in the 2024 race for the White House. “There’s a political process that needs to happen before someone is the frontrunner or even the party’s nominee,” said Turner, who serves as a senior Republican member on the House Intelligence Committee.
Congressman Adam Kinzinger called Trump’s statement “crazy”. No Conservatives can now support him. John Bolton, who was Trump’s national security adviser until a falling out, said “all true conservatives” must now prevent Trump from running in the 2024 presidential election.
