Tuchel and Conte were sent off at the end of the fiery 2-2 draw between Chelsea and Tottenham

Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte were sent off on Sunday afternoon after a fiery 2-2 draw between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

The two managers clashed after the final whistle, which resulted in referee Anthony Taylor showing both red cards after brawls broke out midway through the second half.

Kalidou Koulibaly put Chelsea ahead with an excellent volley before Pierre-Emile’s Hojbjerg low shot crept into the far post.

Reece James confirmed the hosts’ lead soon after, but Harry Kane’s last-minute equalizer salvaged a point for Tottenham, who were largely overplayed.

Tuchel and Conte met for the first time after Tottenham equalized, with Chelsea annoyed that no foul was given for a tackle on Kai Havertz, while they also questioned whether substitute Richarlison, who was flagged for offside, could have done it game disturbed.

The Chelsea manager seemed unhappy about the proximity of Conte’s celebrations.

When James gave Chelsea a 2-1 lead shortly after with a well-scored goal, he responded with a sprint across the Stamford Bridge touchline in a manner reminiscent of former coach Jose Mourinho.

Tottenham’s equalizer was also controversial shortly after VAR appeared to show Marc Cucurella having his hair pulled by Cristian Romero.

Another corner was awarded anyway, with Kane’s header taking a small deflection from James.

Security stopped Conte from celebrating in front of Tuchel but conflict still erupted at the final whistle.

Conte didn’t look at Tuchel as the two shook hands and the unfortunate home manager seemed to respond by refusing to let go of his hand and pulling Conte back towards him.

The pair then lined up, with Tuchel pointing to his eyes. They were quickly separated by staff but both were shown straight red by referee Taylor.

Both managers will now have to settle for a sideline suspension for their clubs’ next game.

Regarding the duel, Tuchel said: “I just compared it to two players who fight a bit on the field, but nobody gets hurt. The managers got involved today because we’re both fighting for our teams, but it’s not bad.”

Conte declined to speak about the incident after the game but told Sky Sports: “I don’t want to come back again but there is a video. When there is aggression, I respond with aggression.”

Chelsea meet Leeds United on August 21 while Spurs play Wolves the day before.
