Two young Frenchmen aged 22 and 27 stabbed the suspect while trying to escape in Amsterdam

Two young French tourists were stabbed in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The circumstances of the incident are still unknown.

Police in Amsterdam (Netherlands) announced the attack on two French men, aged 22 and 27, in the city’s red light district. Information shared by AFP in multiple media outlets including Le Figaro.

The two youths were reportedly stabbed to death around 3:00 a.m. local time. Exactly on the Oudekerksplein, also known as “Old Church Square”, in the Centrum district, the attack happened. The police were called by a witness.

The two French tourists are injured in the hands. “One of the two was treated at the scene, the other was taken to the hospital,” said a police spokesman for the AFP news agency. The suspected attacker managed to escape. The two victims now want to file a complaint.

A tourist district

The area where the attack took place is well known to foreign tourists. In particular, it is the workplace of many prostitutes in the city. According to the daily newspaper Het Parool, the district was particularly busy this Easter weekend. Local crime is said to be strong and on the rise in recent years.
