This was announced by the Bellator organization on Twitter. We don’t know the nature of the health issue that has overwhelmed the former light heavyweight athlete. However, it had no connection with COVID-19.
“The BELLATOR family is saddened by his untimely death and we extend our condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time,” the statement read.
Last year, Johnson posted a message on Instagram asking for “as much prayer as possible” from his followers and revealing that he was battling an illness.
Johnson (23-6) last fought in May 2021. Recognized as a knockout specialist, he ended seven fights early in his career.
