Warsaw’s new attack on Kiev over restrictive measures against the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds from Ukraine to the territory of Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Romania. “What we are doing now,” that is, trying to extend the import ban, “what we did on April 15 (when Poland introduced a unilateral import ban), is precisely to give Ukraine the opportunity to join the ‘EU’.” “Polish Agriculture Minister Robert Telus said in an interview with Radio Plus, adding: “If we don’t build these instruments today, Poland will certainly not accept Ukraine’s accession to the EU.” The countries concerned have requested an extension of the restrictive measures decided by the European Commission last April, which expire tomorrow. In the last few days, the Warsaw government has made a decision by which it is effectively extending the import ban even without a corresponding decision from the EU.
