MADRID, Oct 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Russian authorities on Tuesday increased the death toll in the attack on the Kerch Bridge, which connects Russia to the Crimea peninsula, to four after recovering the body of a recent victim.
According to the TASS news agency, the emergency services have indicated that the fourth fatality has been identified as Sergei Maslov, a judge at the Moscow Arbitration Court.
The four fatalities were on board a vehicle that could have been the “epicenter of the blast,” according to authorities, who previously put the death toll at three.
The blasting of the bridge provoked a strong reaction from the Kremlin, which ordered a series of bombings of the main Ukrainian cities.
Also known simply as the Crimean Bridge, the bridge is considered an important logistical supply route for Russian forces in Crimea and Russian-occupied southern Ukraine. The 19-kilometer structure includes a railway line and a highway.
Inaugurated by Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2018, it has been one of the most important infrastructure projects on the peninsula since its incorporation into Russia in 2014 and is seen by Ukraine as a symbol of Russian occupation.
