Ukrainian President Zelenskyy is negotiating with the Academy over the Oscar performance

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has held talks with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to make a video appearance during Sunday’s broadcast of the Oscars, The Post has learned.

Academy officials are still debating whether Zelensky will actually make a brief appearance on the show, sources said. It’s also not clear if he would appear live or on a recorded message. Sources say the debate revolves around whether the Oscars should remain apolitical as the Russian invasion of Ukraine rages on.

The Academy declined to comment to The Post.

ABC, which airs the show, is said to support a statement from Zelensky, a former actor. ABC did not respond to requests for comment.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian-born actress Mila Kunis, who raised $35 million for the Ukrainian refugees with her husband Ashton Kutcher, is believed to be making a statement during the awards ceremony.

Zelensky has expressed his gratitude for Kutcher and Kunis’ efforts.

On Twitter Sunday, The leader shared a photo of himself in a Zoom meeting with the Hollywood couple.

“@aplusk & Mila Kunis were among the first to respond to our grief. They have already raised $35 million and are sending it to @flexport and @Airbnb to help refugees. Grateful for their support. Impressed by her determination. You inspire the world. #StandWithUkraine,” he wrote.

In recent days, the academy has not commented on whether it will strain the war.

The show’s executive producer, Will Packer, told reporters during a virtual news conference Thursday, “This really is one [momentous] time in human history and we are very aware of that. And that’s not how you go on a show like this, I guess, and not be aware of it and not find a way to respectfully acknowledge where we are and how lucky we are to even be able to put this show on.”
