Understand what the Maine shootings looked like

The shooter traveled more than 6 km between one attack and the next. 18 people died on Wednesday night (October 25th)

Shortly before 7 p.m. (local time) on Wednesday evening (October 25, 2023), a shooting attack began in the city of Lewiston, Maine, killing 18 people. The first shots were fired at the Justintime Recreation bowling club at around 6:56 p.m. (local time).

According to Maine State Police, seven people were found dead at the bowling alley, six men and one woman. Initially, local authorities identified the site by its previous name, “Sparetime Recreation.”

About 12 minutes later, at 7:08 p.m. (local time), police received several calls reporting that a man had entered the Schemengee restaurant and bar and started shooting. At this second location, 8 people died, all men. Possible motives for the attack were not disclosed.

Another three people were shot at the scene and rescued, but did not survive their injuries and died in hospital.

At 8:06 p.m., police released a photo of the suspect to the media. More than an hour later, at 9:26 p.m., the Lewiston Police Department received a call identifying the man in the photos as 40yearold Robert Card, a U.S. Army reservist. He lives near Bowdoin, Maine.

At approximately 10 p.m., police in the city of Lisbon, Maine, notified Lewiston police about a car driven by Robert Card. According to authorities, Card “should be considered armed and dangerous.”

There is currently no information on the suspect’s whereabouts.

According to U.S. Army records obtained by CNN, Card is an oil supply specialist and was first hired in 2002. He did not take part in combat missions.
