Shortly after an explosion at the site of a waste disposal company, an impressive column of fire appeared north of the city of Oxford in England.
This Monday, October 2, a huge fireball was observed in the county of Oxford in the United Kingdom, shortly after an explosion occurred in the region, several Anglo-Saxon media outlets report, including Sky News.
Several images circulated on social networks and there were more and more testimonies about this pillar of fire that appeared northwest of the city of Oxford.
A waste disposal site struck by lightning
According to local tabloid Oxford Mail, the fire broke out on the premises of a waste management company near the town of Yarnton. “This evening a fermenter at our Cassington factory near Yarnton, Oxfordshire was struck by lightning, resulting in an explosion in our biogas tanks,” the company confirmed on its Facebook account this evening.
The Met Office, the British weather agency, issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain this Monday evening and until 2 a.m. Tuesday.
“Thankfully no one was injured,” Severn Trent Power added, “We are working with emergency services to ensure the safety of the site and assess the extent of the damage as quickly as possible.”
Thames Valley Police have confirmed officers are at the scene. Authorities, who have not issued an evacuation order, have asked residents to stay home and close their windows for the next few hours.
