After a power outage caused by extreme heat hit Universal Studios Hollywood, patrons were stuck on Harry Potter and Transformers rides
Hit after a power outage Universal Studios Hollywood, guests got stuck on Harry Potter and Transformers rides. Universal Studios Hollywood in Los Angeles, California is one of the best theme parks for movie buffs (with the possible exception of Disney). The park features rides and experiences that hark back to some of the most iconic moments from the films, from Jurassic Park to Men In Black to ET and of course the only recently added Harry Potter World, which transports fans to the magical world of Hogwarts. Universal can be a truly magical place for all movie buffs. That is, of course, as long as the power stays on.

If there’s one thing California is known for that doesn’t involve the magic of Hollywood, it’s the heat — heat like the state’s been witnessing this week, which has brought the temperature impressively high. Temperatures in Universal peaked at 96 degrees, but temperatures rose to a whopping 100 degrees in other areas like Long Beach. Of course, those temperatures meant everyone had their air conditioning on everywhere, which is no surprise at all. Unfortunately, this resulted in a surprise for some others who chose to spend a day at Universal Studios.

It was reported by Deadline that Universal lost power yesterday, allegedly due to grid congestion. Eleven visitors to the park found themselves trapped in the Transformers ride, resulting in the Los Angeles County Fire Department having to rescue them. In the end, it took almost two hours and 15 minutes for the guests to be removed from the ride, although no injuries were reported. A Harry Potter ride was also reported to have been affected, although it is not known which or how many guests were affected.
While this was certainly a less than desirable experience for the Universal guests who got stuck on the rides, luckily everyone seems to have come through it okay. While amusement park rides do crash with people every once in a while, it’s not something that nobody usually thinks will actually happen to them. It’s possible these guests experienced some of the real thrills that the characters in Transformers would have felt amid classic Michael Bay action scenes.
Thankfully, all is well, but it’s likely that Universal will take more precautions for possible power outages in the future. No further details about anything else at the park that was affected have been given since the incident, but more news could emerge when the park gets back up and running. Until then, movie buffs might be best off checking out the movies the rides are based on rather than venturing out Universal Studios Hollywoodat least until the heat wave is over.
