Uruguay will modernize border posts with Argentina

The Ministry of Defense and the construction company Ciemsa today signed an agreement to carry out infrastructure works.

The project includes the construction of a parking lot and the establishment of offices, gastronomic, financial and hygienic services, among others, for tourists and transport companies.

The planned works will allow the “thousands of people” who cross the border at Fray Bentos every day to be welcomed in an “efficient, modern and clean” space, with various services that make the experience “comfortable”, said the president of the press. Defense Minister Javier García.

The first part of the work will prioritize the construction of a parking lot, particularly for truck drivers carrying and transporting cargo between Uruguay and Argentina.

“Now there are many people working in trucks that cook in mud, impassable, dusty and unsanitary conditions,” he said.

“There will be services here that don’t exist today, so that the truck driver who is here for hours will be able to shower, eat, have a small restaurant, a deli and leisure activities, among other things.” we have already passed a decree so that there is a time in hours that is free,” he added.

Fray Bentos is the capital of the Río Negro department and is located on the eastern bank of the Uruguay River.

It has a deep-water overseas port and is connected to the Entre Ríos Province in the Argentine Republic through the binational project “Puente Libertador General San Martín”.
