A Georgia mother filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the hospital where she gave birth and those involved, claiming her baby was “decapitated” at birth.
According to the complaint, Southern Regional Medical Center tried to hide the cause of the newborn’s death from his family, CNN reported.
Jessica Ross and Treveon’s baby, Isaiah Taylor Sr., was taken to delivery, the family attorney said.
Work began on July 9th. The doctor reportedly then “attempted a variety of methods to deliver vaginally, including pulling on the baby’s head.”
However, the child did not descend properly and his shoulders got stuck in the vaginal canal, the complaint said. The doctor is said to have “carelessly applied excessive pull” on the baby’s head and neck.
“[Il] A failure to perform a timely and proper cesarean section resulted in the beheading and death of Treveon Isaiah Taylor Jr.,” the complaint said, according to US media.
According to the family spokesman, the medical staff did not allow the parents to hold or touch their baby. They were only able to see their deceased child again later.
“During that visit, her baby was wrapped in a blanket and his head was on his body in such a way that people who saw him could not tell that he had been decapitated,” the statement said.
The hospital center, in turn, said it was “unable to speak about the care and treatment of certain patients” due to legislation.
“Our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to the family and everyone affected by this tragic event,” the hospital said.
It was also mentioned that the designated doctor was not a member of the hospital.
The plaintiffs are demanding a trial and are seeking damages, including for the baby’s livability, but also for burial and burial costs.
