After the Germans said yes to delivering the Leopard to Kyiv, the US is now also releasing some of its thousands of Abrams main battle tanks. Although they are extremely strong, they can struggle in Ukraine. And maybe not for a year.
After Berlin’s long-demanded action to deliver Leopard 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine after all, and/or agreeing to such deliveries by other willing Leo operators such as Poland, Finland, and Spain, the US followed suit: Wednesday, President Joe Biden said: Kyiv should receive about 30 Abrams main battle tanks. Well, the US has a total of 5,600 to 6,600 of them (depending on the census), most of which are in storage.
Until now, it looked like the US and Germany had mutually tied their approval to these gifts of steel. So Leo only rolls when Abrams does and vice versa.
