US President’s former bodyguard protects Prince Harry as royal family flies to Germany for opening of Invictus Games

US President Chris Sanchez’s former bodyguard is once again in the line of fire to protect Prince Harry in Germany.

The former secret service agent arrived with Harry on a British Airways flight from London and sat in the front seat of a car that took him to his luxury hotel in Düsseldorf.

He was pictured by Harry’s side as they left the airport after being escorted off the BA plane and into a waiting car.

Since leaving royal life, Texas-born Sanchez has been Harry and Meghan’s main bodyguard, accompanying them on all their trips abroad and to the United States.

He is employed by his Houston-based private security firm, Touchstone Global, providing close protection to corporate executives and other VIPs.

Sanchez was part of the US Secret Service for five years, including two and a half years with Barack Obama and George W. Bush for half a year each. He is now Harry and Meghan’s main bodyguard and was first seen shadowing the couple in 2022 after “Megxit” at the Invictus Games in The Hague, Netherlands.

The burly bodyguard previously revealed that he was inspired to join the Secret Service after watching the Clint Eastwood film In the Line of Fire.

In an interview, he said, “I was fascinated by the whole Secret Service mantra and the Secret Service mystique.”

During his 14-year career, he became part of the protection team for President George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

Sanchez was first seen with the couple when they attended the Invictus Games in The Hague, Netherlands, last year, their first trip abroad together since “Megxit,” when they decided to give up their royal duties and move to California for life to pull.

The burly ex-cop mostly followed Meghan as she toured the venue.

He was always one step behind the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and gave orders to the other members of the security detail who accompanied the couple.

Sanchez was also at the couple’s side when they were involved in a car chase that her rep described as a “near disaster” during a visit to New York in May.

The couple’s spokesman claimed a chase by paparazzi photographers as they left the Ziegfield Theater in New York City put the lives of others at risk, saying they were involved in a “relentless” high-speed chase through the streets of Manhattan.

The Sussexes’ version of events was questioned by police, who only said the journey back to their private accommodation was “challenging” but said there had been no arrests.

A US-based photo agency denied that its staff caused any trouble for the couple.

Mr. Sanchez watches as Harry and Meghan are greeted with a cuddly toy by a fan. The Duchess of Sussex, wearing a pinstripe jacket, was shaded by Mr Sanchez last year. Sanchez will accompany the prince when he makes his first official appearance at the Invictus Games today.

He will meet the mayor of Düsseldorf in the city’s town hall and have his name entered in a golden book reserved for VIP visitors.

Harry will later travel three miles to the Merkur Spiel-Arena where he will officially open the games in front of 500 attendees, friends and family.

Harry is scheduled to speak for seven minutes, welcoming athletes from 21 nations.

The biggest cheer of the night will probably go to the Ukrainian team, as organizers say they expect goosebumps when they arrive.

Grammy-winning rapper Macklemore will perform at the end of the ceremony, which will also feature German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Düsseldorf Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller, will give speeches.

More than 100,000 visitors are expected to attend the week-long games featuring wounded and disabled military veterans and military personnel.

Harry will later take part in the German version of Match of the Day, where he will talk to the show’s hosts about the Invictus Games.
