US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is traveling to Beijing on a four-day trip to ease US-China tensions. Yellen will meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Friday. The finance minister criticized China’s “punitive measures” and the obstacles imposed on US companies, such as mineral export controls and a refusal to give them market access. The United States has imposed its own restrictions on China, particularly with regard to technology trade with the United States. Those were Yellen’s words.

US climate chief John Kerry will visit China next week to resume talks on the climate crisis. China and the United States are the two most polluting countries and the two largest investors in clean energy.
