This Saturday, November 25, 2023, the Ann Arbor, Michigan police spent almost an hour in the evening chasing a twelve-year-old boy behind the wheel of a stolen construction machine, a Genie GTH-636 telehandler, equipped with a forklift and weighing more than fifteen tons.
Police said the child stole the vehicle near Forsythe School using a key found in the cabin, police said. The child crashed into about ten vehicles, which were damaged, but no injuries were reported. “This was a very dangerous situation that could easily have resulted in serious injury,” the police statement said. “The incident remains under criminal investigation.”

Police were on scene at around 6:45 p.m. (local time) after being called. She noticed that the child was driving the construction vehicle without headlights. The police car then turned on its siren and flashing lights before pursuing him in the area of Georgetown Boulevard. Police recorded a video that was posted on YouTube.
At approximately 7:20 p.m., the child left the city limits and the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office took over the pursuit from Ann Arbor police officers. The child was arrested around 8 p.m. after stopping the vehicle. His identity has not been revealed because he is a minor. He was arrested on Saturday evening and taken to a juvenile detention center.
