According to the Gun Violence Archive organization, the 341st mass shooting since the beginning of the year took place in the United States on Monday, July 3, shortly before 9 p.m. In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a man killed four people – all men between the ages of 20 and 59. The gunman also injured two children, ages 2 and 13, on the streets of a neighborhood in this East Coast city. They are in stable condition at the hospital.
Police said they arrested a 40-year-old man near the scene. Equipped with a bulletproof vest, he was armed with a semi-automatic rifle and a handgun. During his escape, he continued to “actively fire shots,” according to Philadelphia police. A second man who would have responded to those shots was arrested Monday night.
The Democratic mayor of Philadelphia said he was “appalled” by the shooting before offering his “prayers to the victims.” “This devastating violence must end,” wrote Jim Kenney in a tweet. The latest shooting in the country was just this past weekend: an 18-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man were killed at a block party in Baltimore, Maryland. 28 people were injured in the shooting in this city on the east coast of the United States.
